Universal Life Church

Universal Life Church Announcement - December 2008
Happy Holidays! I'd like to keep you updated on the latest news at the Seminary. I've been spending a lot of time recently working on the website. If you haven't checked it out lately, please note the change in the side-bar navigation, as well as the drop-down menu at the top of the page. My goal is to make it easier to find the various pages on the site.
YOUTUBE VIDEOS - The other new thing we're doing is adding video to the website and we need your help. I've been doing some searching on youtube for some appropriate videos to use on the site. What I'd rather have is video directly from you, the Seminary congregation. What I would love to have is a wide variety of videos where you talk about your ministry, why you became ordained, a funny story about a wedding you did, a story about a funeral, any sermons, etc. If you mention the ULC Seminary in it, it'll definitely go up. I'd like to have videos all over the site from our ministers. I've put a few relevant videos up in a few places, so please check them out. I'd like to have people talking about the courses they've taken and/or anything else about what you're doing and how it fits in with the Seminary. When you post it on youtube, send me the link and make sure there's a link for me to embed it on the site. If you only want it on our site, you can put that as an option, to make it available to only you (or us). Please email me your youtube link to amy@ulcseminary.org.
ANNOUNCEMENTS ARCHIVE -This new page is an archive of all of our announcements. The announcements contain more timely information than the newsletters and we send them to everyone at once. People have asked to see previous ones, so I thought it would be a good idea to archive them for people to browse through.

Please remember that some of the things mentioned in the mailings are either done or may not necessarily be available at this time. The page is Mailing Archive . I've got quite a few of them put up so far and more will be added as they get sent (like this one, for instance).
NEW MINI SITES - I've been getting a few people who have offered to help with the new mini-sites. I'm still waiting to hear back from several of them, so please keep checking them out and see what you see. I'd like to put some of the new videos on these sites as well.
The current new 'mini' sites are:
  • www.universallifechurchseminary.org - this one discusses ordination and shares some ordination stories
  • www.ulcseminary.net - this site has online sermons. There are just a few up now, but there will be more.
  • www.ministersupplies.com - I'm going to list reviews and more expansive information of some of the products.
  • www.onlineseminary.org - This has a description of all the seminary courses with links to samples and broader descriptions
  • www.ulcceremonies.com - this one has some ceremonies for weddings and funerals. As I get a chance, it will be expanded.
  • www.weddingwordsandmore.com - This site just focuses on weddings. All the wedding info on the site will all be in one place so if weddings are your main interest, this would be a great site to visit.
NEW NING COMMUNITY - If you haven't already joined, please check out the new NING community that we have set up for the ULC Seminary. The address to join is: http://universallifechurchseminary.ning.com. It's kind of like myspace and facebook, but it's for our type of crowd. We've already got several hundred members and people seem to be enjoying having other ULC members to talk to.
DONATIONS - I would like to express my sincere appreciation for those of you who have recently sent donations to the seminary. I will mention a few names here of those who were particularly generous: Sharon Mayer, Paul Hurst, Charles Greenlee, Ernest Jones, Jackie Rago, Dino Kelly, and Oral Newsome.
The paypal address for the seminary is amy@ulcseminary.org. There's a way to offer donations on the website too, but a shipping charge automatically adds. If you wanted to donate the equivalent of the shipping charge, you could place an order for just a donation and it would only charge you the shipping. It would be so much appreciated if you could.
NEW COURSE - The New course on Gnosticism is now available in the church store. I'm working on getting up a sample and a more expansive course description, but the course, written and donated by Bishop Pat, is now available. I'd like to point out, for those who have made comments, that I put up the courses as they come in. I have no control over who offers to write a course, so if I have several of one type of religion come in and then several of another, that has nothing to do with the direction of the Seminary or any religious preferences one way or another. If there's a course you'd like to see, let me know and, if possible, find an appropriate instructor for me to contact. Gnosticism

Essays from the various programs are at: www.ulcseminaryprogram.blogspot.com.
EVENTS DIRECTORY - I've mentioned this before, but so far, it's still in the imagination state. I had someone offer to help, but I never heard back from him. When it's functional, you'll be able to record your events after they happen. You can post your weddings, funerals, house blessings, etc. and have a public record of your achievements. It'll be great for reference and to let people know what ULC ministers are doing.
STOCKING STUFFER SPECIAL - The Stocking Stuff Special is back. This package is great for getting someone you love some ULC swag for the holidays. The link is: Stocking Stuffer Special.
PRE-MARITAL COUNSELING KIT - We have a new product that might be of interest to those of you who do weddings for your local congregations. It's for those who do Christian pre-marital counseling. It has video, audio tapes and questionaires and such to fill out. I like that this has more than just questionaires, but has video and audio as well. I'm looking for something comparable for those who are spiritual, Pagan, etc., but haven't found a good one yet. If you know of a good one that's comparable, please please please email me and let me know.
Pre-Marital Counseling Kit
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc. please feel free to ask. Oh, and if your name is, by chance, incorrect, it can easily be adjusted just by letting me know. :)

Universal Life Church Announcements - August 2008
Hello,
Who's Who Book and current sales
The Who's Who book is finally done. I've mailed out copies to everyone who is in it and have placed the finished copies on a special sale in the church store. For a limited time, I've discounted the cover price, so if you're interested, get your copy now. :)
The Shamanism program is also on a temporary sale. It's on sale through the 20th of this month for just $50. It's an amazing, well-written course and I think you'll like it. It's available by going to: Shamanism
Courses
The blog where the course essays are listed is: www.ulcseminaryprogram.blogspot.com
We have two other brand new courses that you all will be getting samples of before long. The first is the Master of Buddhism course, written by Tricia Stirling. People have been asking for this course ever since we had to pull the old one several years ago. This course is written in a clear and easy-to-understand fashion to help you grasp the basics of a variety of branches of Buddhism. The author has a wonderful story-telling style that leaves you with a feeling of competence when learning a new subject. It's available at: Buddhism
The second course we are offering is the Dr. of Spiritual Awareness, written by Charles Grooms. If you've taken and enjoyed the Spirit Quest course, you will love this course as well. It covers a wide variety of spiritual topics with a different slant. It covers some of the same subjects as Spirit Quest, but also covers a whole lot more different ones. It's fun and enlightening and is a great experience. It's available at: Dr. of Spiritual Awareness
The third most recent course that we have been offering is the Master of Christian History.
Christian History.
More on the course can be found at: Christian History Info.
The other course I'd like to give a plug to is the Master of Mystical Christianity. This course is not getting as much attention as I think it deserves. It's a very well-written course that takes a different look at the origins of Christianity. If you're a Christian, it's great information to fill in some of the 'holes' that many have in their Christian education. If you're not Christian, it's a wonderful look at feminity and the role that women have had in history. The course is available at: Mystical Christianity.
Weddings, Funerals and Rites Sequel
Now that this book is done, I'll be putting my focus back on the sequel for Weddings, Funerals and Rites of Passage. I have over 350 pages done thus far and am working on the rest. I am still taking submissions, but I'm being very particular about what I'm accepting. For wedding ceremonies, the only kind I'm accepting are unusual ceremony parts like: Dove and Butterfly releases, jumping the broom, recognizing parents who have died, sand ceremonies, etc. I already have plenty of vows, promises, etc.
I'd also like to clarify that when I get a ceremony from someone, I break it down into parts. With some ceremonies, I use all the parts and with some, I only use the more unusual parts, so please don't be offended if I don't use the whole thing in exactly the way you present it.
I'm also still looking for the following: Funeral Ceremonies, Adult Baptisms, Pet Funerals, Coming of Age, House Blessings, etc. I'm including some divorce ceremonies as well and would love one (or more) for people who wish to symbolically separate, but are not doing it with their ex. Either because they are angry and hurt or because their ex isn't interested, but they would still like to symbolically end the marriage.
Those whose ceremonies are included, will receive a complimentary copy of the book with my thanks. All author's names are included both at the bottom of each ceremony part as well as in a list in the back of the book. If you have a ceremony, send it to ulcseminary@sbcglobal.net. Please send it in the email or as a Word attachment. Also include your full name and snail mail address.
Just a reminder that when you place your order and it includes a credential, the credentials come from headquarters and may take a little longer than the rest of your order. :)

Thanks!!!

Universal Life Church - July 2008
Hello,
Happy Summer! As always, things are moving and grooving with the Seminary and with me as well. For those of you who remember, about 9 months ago, I shared that I was going through a divorce. I received a lot of wonderful emails from people who'd been through it and had come out on the other side. Those emails were the boost I needed to help me keep perspective and move forward in a positive way. For all of you who sent the emails and who also sent their well-wishes in other ways, I'm deeply grateful. My divorce was final this month and I feel like that chapter in my life is closed. For those of you who told me that true love is out there, you're right. I've met someone wonderful and I'm unbelievably happy.
Who's Who Book
One of the good things about this newfound happiness is that I've been productive. :) The ULC Who's Who book is at the printers and will be in the mail, to those of you who ordered it, by the end of July. I ordered a preview copy of the book and found a number of errors, so I made some revisions and am waiting on another preview copy. This one looks incredible. :)
Courses
The most recent course that we have been offering is the Master of Christian History. More on the course can be found at Christian History Info.
The Buddhism course will be ready very shortly. I know I've been promising it, but it has been very difficult to get it done for some reason. I also have a course on Spirituality and Metaphysics that will be offered soon as well. Some things have been on hold until I got the Who's Who book done. It's done now, so I'll be adding new courses and updating a lot of stuff on the website.
The blog where the course essays are listed is: www.ulcseminaryprogram.blogspot.com
New Products
I'd like suggestions, if you have any, for new products you'd like to see in the church store. Is there anything on Tshirts that you'd like to see? We're still working on the robes and stoles, trying to get them back. We had to discontinue them because they took 6-8 weeks to arrive and that made for a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of emails to me.
Thanks!!!

Universal Life Church

Universal Life Church - May 2008
Hello!

Much has been going on at the Seminary lately. The first thing is that we have a new course called the Master of Christian History. Info about the course:

"This is a historical survey covering the history of Christianity up to 1054. The growth of the Christian church has taken place within a historical context. Over time, the Christian church has been influenced by the political, economic, socio-cultural, intellectual, and artistic movements of each epoch of world history and has in turn influenced those self-same historical epochs as well.

The history of Christianity and world history are in many ways intertwined. With this in mind, we will engage in a historical journey that begins with the founding of the Christian church in the midst of the Roman Empire of the 1st century A.D. and continuing up to the break between Western and Eastern Christianity in The Great Schism of 1054." The link for the course is at: http://www.ulcseminary.org/store/product_info.php?products_id=187

We also have some new little products in the store, like angel pins and bible tin mints. Very cute. I believe a Buddhism Course and a course based on the 12-step program are both on their way too.
The next thing that is of much concern to many is the Who's Who book. I have to apologize for this taking so long. I naiively thought that this would be a relatively simple task and so I didn't plan it very well, as far as timing and amount of time to invest. That aside, things are rolling along. I have a preliminary list of names of people who are in the book. I haven't confirmed payment by everyone and I haven't read all the entries, but this is the list so far:
Adam Rocke Alexandra Rose
Allana Leckie Barbara Hynal
Bill Pollard Carl Coglianese
Carol Birdwell Cathy Adamson
Charles Gilmore Cynthia Henry
Dale Furr Danilo Ines
David Sillasen David Moshier
David Tabor Deb Overfield
Debra Baker Diana Angelique
Dirk Wunsch Dona Lipscomb
Donald Hood Franklin Coleman
Glory Christensen Irene Bozich
James Gilchrist Jesse Hoog
Jim Towers Jody Hanson
Johnette Mason Judith Wolf
Kim Anne Kimberley East
Kitty Norris Kurt Fondreist
L Trip Swindell Lewis Levite
Linda Blankenheim Loretta Siani
Louis Hook Lynn Turner
Mark Lightfoot Michael Kuk
Patricia Fleury Patrick Schwab
Peggy Muse Robin Russell
Rodney Langley Royden Harrill
Sandra Weeks Sarita Toyber
Scott Robb Sharon Myer
Steve Hawkes Sue Henley
Tara Joles Terry Rundell
Theresa Brooks Therese May
Walter Moline William Gameson
If you want to be in the book and submitted something, but don't see your name here, let me know please. If you would like to get in the book, you can still get in. I'll accept some entries for the next very short while as I finish reading and editing the existing submissions. If your name is on the list and you haven't sent payment, please do so. :)

If you'll notice, I have upgraded the minister picture slide show, but am still working on fixing the 'featured minister' section. I have no idea why it's not working.

If anyone knows about operating a prison ministry and/or a hospital ministry, please let me know how you went about creating it. I'm especially interested in prison ministries, since we have had a lot of interest.
Also, once this Who's Who book is done, I'll be finishing the Weddings, Funerals and Rites sequel. It's well on its way to being done, so I hope to get it finished up soon.

Oh, for those of you who received the same newsletter a bunch of times in a row and then got a newsletter or sample practically every day, I do have to apologize. Glitches happen and it took me a little while to figure out what the problem was. :)

If you've sent in your essay and haven't received your degree yet (and it has been more than a few weeks) let me know. I think I'm caught up, but I don't want anyone to ever slip through the cracks.
I'd also like to take a moment to thank Sharon Mayer, who was so kind as to send me a care package late last month. It was entirely unexpected and greatly appreciated.

There has also been a change in the Master of Wiccan program. It seems that the authorship of the program has come into question, but it has been sorted out and you'll see the change reflected on the listing.
As always, I appreciate having you as a member of the ULC Seminary. I do my best to keep things fresh for you all and appreciate all your suggestions, assistance and input.

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know by writing to amy@ulcseminary.org.

Universal Life Church

Universal Life Church - November 2007

Hello!
As most of you know, when you are a 'mover and a shaker', sometimes things get moved and shaken. :) Since so many of you have asked, I might as well make it known -- I'm in the process of a divorce after 12 years of marriage and it all got kicked off at the end of Sept., the same time I'd planned on closing out the entry date for the Who's Who book. Thus my delay. Throughout this transition, my internet was turned off and I was on 'borrowed' internet for over a week. (This means someone's unsecured network that was incredibly slow and kept kicking me off.) I'm finally back online, but there's still something funky about it and I'm still getting kicked off.

For reasons unknown to me, the back-end of my shopping cart had become temporarily inaccessible, so Monica and I weren't able to get into the back-end to check on the status of orders and send out the delivery confirmation. Orders are still being filled, but we had trouble confirming things when you've been writing to ask. Please know that we're not ignoring you -- just having a hard time. It was just fixed today, so we'll be getting caught up soon.

So, to make a short story longer, I'm a bit behind -- just in general. For those of you who have been through it, with young children, you know how it is and I have greatly appreciated all the well wishes that have been coming my way.

You'll also be pleased to note that the book deadline is still open. I took on too many projects at once and have not been as diligent about getting the word out about this project as I should have. We still need more people to join the book project before we can go to press. So if you have been thinking about telling your story, but have been holding off for some reason, now's the time to get in this unique book. Take a few minutes and write down how you became involved with the ULC and what you've done. You can submit payment through the shopping cart. I'm going to do the book even if we don't get the full number of people we want, but I think the book would make a better statement if it were thick with entries.

The holidays are fast approaching so you'll be pleased to see that the Stocking Stuff Special has returned! You can find it here:
It will make someone a terrific Christmas/Holiday gift.

Please check out the new courses on the seminary page. The Mystical Christianity course is wonderful, as well as the Shamanism course. And the Metaphysical Healing is very interesting as well.

The new Miracle of Prayer course is a fantastic course that we've just added some more information about. If you haven't received a sample of this course, I'm sure it will be along shortly.

One other strange little thing: Someone hijacked our main blog. Whoever stole it, somehow changed the name of our blog. I've written google about it, but haven't gotten any response. One way to get their attention is to go to the site and hit the button in the upper lefthand corner that says 'flag'. If you would go there and hit that flag, as well as make a comment in their comment section about it being a stolen blog, that would be appreciated. The stolen blog address is www.ulcseminaryp.blogspot.com. The 'changed' address is www.ulcseminaryprogram.blogspot.com. Please flag the first and visit the second.

Last, but not least, if you have completed your essay for one of the programs, but have not received your certificate, give me an email and let me know. (Unless it was within the last week.) I am way behind on posting them because of our blog being hijacked, but I have requested all of the degrees, so they should be on their way out. :)

As always, I appreciate having you as a member of the ULC Seminary. I do my best to keep things fresh for you all and appreciate all your suggestions, assistance and input.
If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know by writing to amy@ulcseminary.org.
